Do you know EFT?

I don’t believe in coincidences, so when references to EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) started popping up all over the place, I listened to the Universe and looked into it.

Interesting! I love anything involving energy, moving energy, removing energy blocks for healing, and so on. EFT involves tapping along the accupuncture points to correct & free the body’s subtle energies. The website says “EFT is an emotional, needle-free version of acupuncture.”

I downloaded the free manual. Yes, the manual is free. You have to pay for the DVD’s if you want to become more advanced, but the manual that everyone learns from is free.

I started learning the basic process. It is four steps, and I’ve got the first one down pat.

Step 1: The Setup

Rub the sore spot (where and why are explained in the manual) while repeating the affirmation (the structure is given, but you add the meat) three times.

Today’s affirmation: I love and approve of myself even though I have this feeling of failue.

I repeated that way more than three times. On each side. But since I don’t know the next step, I just kept at it until I felt better. It’s not the stated affirmation in the manual, either. I couldn’t remember it, so I modified one of Louise Hay’s affirmations. I’m like that. I’m not going to let the lack of exact words stand in my way. So rub and affirm I did, over and over the whole drive home, muttering under my breath because I didn’t want to explain to kiddo what I was doing or saying. Not today anyway.

I love and approve of myself even though I have this feeling of failure.

It helped. I had no one to vent to at the time. No space in which to cry or grieve privately for a few moments. The overwhelming emotions dissappated.

I love and approve of myself even though I have this feeling of failure.

I don’t feel like as big a failure now. Rather smaller, even. Tomorrow, after a good night’s sleep, I’m sure I’ll be even better.

For more about EFT, head on over to, The official EFT website and download the manual for yourself.

Tomorrow I’ll tackle Step 2: The Basic Process, and begin tapping.

    Hi Susan,

Wow, I was just led to your site from the old Carolina Reiki group — I’m researching what other teachers in NC and SC charge for Level I, since I need to raise my price a little — and I saw your post on EFT. I had a little experience with it last year, thought it was cool but how could anything so effective be so easy, right? And I’m an emotional person and I felt like I needed to feel the emotion to release it, which my first experience didn’t do.

Then, in massage school the other day, the instructor shows a video on it — The Tapping Solution — and I saw that people who were undergoing it really did engage the emotion of how they felt, kept engaging it and talking about it while they were tapping, always ending with the “I love and accept myself” (which I also have modified to the Louise Hay version!). This time it really got my attention. So when a bout of my seemingly-intractable GERD came on, I decided to tap for it.

Well, since then, the GERD hasn’t been “cured,” per se, but it is noticeably better. Very noticeably better, in fact. That’s been about a week. I’m impressed. I’ll certainly keep trying this. I have a client on Friday and I may try it with her, “just to see.”

I’m so happy to have come across your blog and am looking forward to reading the other entries! Be Blessed, Anna Helvie

    Hi Anna,

Thanks for visiting. Glad I could help with the pricing issue, at least I hope I helped, LOL. Isn’t it interesting how the universe just puts things in our way that we need at the time? Since this post, EFT hasn’t been on my radar at all. One of those things that make me go hmmm….

I’m looking forward to exploring your website!

    Hi Susan-
I am new to Twitter – and you were the first to find me… I have just reciprocated. Your writing is informative and well done! I hope to be seeing more of you here.

    Hey Susan

One small catch with the manual – it’s 20 years old. There have been a LOT of discoveries & improvements by various practitioners since that manual was put out. The old stuff still works great – the new stuff just works better.

Anyway – the search function on the emofree site is super helpful (while the site is up – I believe it’s being taken off-line mid this year) – search for a specific thing you’re having issues with & there’ll be a TON of info on absolutely anything.

I also put up a (100% free) site a coupla years back which distils a fair amount of the new discoveries. It’s also a hell of a lot simpler to get started from (eg, the quick start guide there is 2 pages, not 100). The site is:

Oh, & if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me an email. I’ve been using EFT daily for *thinks* 4 years now? So yeah, I can certainly help you get over the basics super easily & quickly.
