What is Reiki, anyway?
Reiki has brought a joy and healing to my life that I want to share with you.
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes healing through stress reduction and relaxation. It originated in Japan in the early 20th century and the word is generally translated as Universal Life Force energy. Rei means Universal or Spirit and Ki (or chi, qi) as life force energy.
Reiki is listed as a Complementary and Alternative Medicine by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), an arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Click here to read their Backgrounder on Reiki.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive, non-manipulative healing technique that uses the healing energy of the universe to promote deep relaxation and trigger self healing. Reiki works on three levels: physical, mental, and spiritual and flows to where it is needed during the treatment.
When I give Reiki, I lay my hands gently on the client’s body or hold them just above the body, depending on the client’s preference, and follow a sequence of 12-15 hand positions and my own intuition. There is no massage or manipulation, just a light touch or no touch at all. I feel a tingling in my hands and a sensation of warmth, though sometimes I’ll feel coolness, and once in a while nothing at all. The recipients often feel a sensation of warmth under my hands. Sometimes they feel coolness, and once in a while, nothing at all. Sometimes I feel nothing and they feel heat! It varies. This is simply the transfer of the energy. The client remains fully clothed and lies upon a massage table, with a pillow and light blanket for comfort.
Reiki is used for many purposes. Healing, relaxation, stress reduction. It provides balance on many levels and can help mitigate the side effects of medicines or medical procedures. You can use Reiki on your animals, plants, food, medicine, etc. You’re limited by your imagination. Using Reiki on yourself or others can shorten the healing time for injuries and illness. It can help heal emotional and spiritual issues as well.
Reiki works in conjunction with, and should never replace, your current medical care. If you have any questions, please consult your medical professional.
Schedule a session or take a class and feel its effects for yourself. You won’t be sorry.
